What is a megapixel?
In photography, megapixels give information about the resolution of the image sensor of a camera and the size (length and width) of the photo made from it.
Megapixel is made up of two words - Mega + Pixel where: -

How to know how many MPs the photo has been taken?
In the language of photography, Resolution is also called Megapixel which tells the length and width (in pixels) of a photo.
Resolution is measured in DPI means Dots per inch or PPI means Pixels per inch, which means how many pixels will be in an inch.
For example, if an image is 4000 px (or pixel) in length and 3000 px in width then: -
Megapixel = (Image length x Image width) / 10,00,000 = (4000 x 3000) / 10,00,000 = 12 MP
Similarly, you can remove the size of the picture with the megapixel or MP from the size of the picture.

More megapixels mean more digital zoom
